Chihuahua is very small-sized dog. It has been always a popular and an adorable dog, loved and owned by many celebrities. There are ongoing debates about the origin of Chihuahua. Some argue that old Aztec civilization was the origin of Chihuahua, while some others assert that it was ancient Egypt where its root lied. While the former group explains that Chihuahua was actually brought by Spanish settlers to Mexico from old Aztec, and then it came to the United States, the later group suggests it made its way from Egypt to Spain via Mexico.
Long haired Chihuahua looks very similar to Pomeranian. The hair of long haired Chihuahua is commonly known as 'Long Coats' or 'Smooth Coats'. With their apple-shaped head, big eyes and tasseled ears, they look simply exquisite. They are the smallest dog in the world. Their size may vary between 6 inches and 9 inches. Show dogs may weigh less than 6 pounds in average; however, the weight of the normal pet dog may go up to 10 pounds or more.
The temperament and personality are same for both short haired and long haired Chihuahua. They are marked for their loving and affectionate personality. A very alert type of dog can keep you always busy and engaged with their sweet jovial personality. With their excellent friendliness and socialization skills, they can offer ideal companionship to the elderly and disabled individuals. They are very stubborn sometimes, so it becomes a hardship to train them. However, as a pet a trained Chihuahua is an excellent selection.
