The present Devon Rex cats are the offspring of ‘Kirlee’ an elfin featured kitten born with curly hairs in 1959 mothered by a stray cat in the house of a women residing at Devonshire, England. She was attracted by his wavy curls and elfin features and named this tomcat ‘Kirlee’. The present Devonshire cats have the same attractive pixie like feature with upturned nose and large bright eyes.
These cats are medium sized and the males are a little heavier than the females. They are very inquisitive by nature and when this quality incorporates with their intelligence it turns them into a playful and friendly pet. They are warmth seekers as their coat has less insulating capability. They always seek out places which will provide them warmth and comfortably settle down for a snooze on the top of a television or in the heater vents.
They are agile so you can find them in all those places where they can get a hold after jumping up. They can be located sitting on chimney tops or on the top of doors. They love the company of people and prefer being carried on the shoulder.
They also like to settle in laps to get the warmth and proximity of their owners. They love food and are ready to put their mouth into anything that they feel is edible. So be careful of the unattended snack box left on the table, else within seconds you will find a tail and four paws protruding from the box.
