Japanese Bobtail: an Ancient Breed

The Japanese bobtail is an ancient breed of the cat family found exclusively in Japan and in most parts of South East Asia. There are many legends about the bobtail. It occupies a place of special importance in its native land as they believe that a bobtail always brings luck and prosperity in the family. The bobtail is small in size and has derived its name due to its pom-pom like small tail.

The physical features of the bobtail are quite unique. It has a chiseled angular body. The shape of the head is like an equilateral triangle which is not found in any other feline breed. They have large ears which are tipped forward a little as though listening to something. The eyes are typical as they have an oriental slant and the outstanding feature of the eyes specially in white bobtails is that, either they have blue eyes or have odd eyes meaning one blue and one gold eye.

Their fur is soft and silky to touch. Moreover the fur is also water resistant which helps it to remain dry and becomes a headache for the owner while getting it wet during a bath. Most of the bobtails can be found in a combination of red and white or black and white colors. They are very adaptable but naughty. If they are forbidden to do something they prefer to repeat that action and there is no way of training them as they valiantly but gracefully refute all methods applied to train them.
