Sphynx the Hairless Cat

The birth of the Sphynx cat is quite unusual. It seems as though Mother Nature had planned to create a special kind of feline breed which would be hairless. She chose the womb of a female cat in Toronto Canada where the hairless kitten was born in 1966. This natural mutation has made it an exclusive and priceless breed.

These cats are not totally hairless. Few hairs can be seen on their toes, nose and tail. They are found all over the world in all kinds of color. Due to the absence of hair they are vulnerable to cold. During very cold season they cleverly absorb the warmth by curling up next to a dog or might be another furry cat. You can also find them curled up under your bedcovers.

They are very sturdy and the male cat is larger than the female cat. They are like small children always trying to draw the attention of the elders. To draw attention they play all kinds of silly pranks and derive pleasure when they become the sole point of attraction. They crave for love and are ready to be all over you to get it.

Sphynx need to be given a bath and grooming very often as the body oils tend to absorb the impurities from the atmosphere. This happens due to the absence of hair on the body. They are preferred as show cats as they have the inborn quality of drawing attention at any cost.
